PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Peoples Party has directed Faisal Sakhi Butt, who failed to win the Senate election from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to file a petition with the Election Commission of Pakistan as to why his votes were rejected during the counting.
According to party sources, the PPP top leadership had expressed annoyance over the defeat of Mr Butt and that consultations were in final stage to file a petition in ECP.
The sources said defeat of Mr Butt was beyond imagination of the leadership, saying many members of the provincial assembly had assured extending support to the PPP candidates but the rejection of votes led to failure of its third candidate to win a Senate seat.
It was learnt that Baldev Kumar, MPA-elect who is in prison in murder case of former CM’s adviser Soran Singh, was also in contact with the PPP leadership, but he could not take oath in the provincial assembly due to opposition of MPAs.
Meanwhile, according to a PPP statement issued on Tuesday, party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has congratulated the newly-elected senators, Rubina Khalid and Bahramand Tangi. He also appreciated the provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan for devising an effective planning and added that similar steps needed to be taken in the next general elections.
